Musical Mayhem

The beginning wasn’t too promising, with the usual why-aren’t-you-ready-yets going on, and then when we made it out of the house we got a mile down the road before the fuel warning light came on in my car, but once I’d dealt with that, things began to improve. As I ran around Tesco to grab some snacks for the day, I received a text-message from a friend – she had presumably received the information from her son, who had presumably received it from the Exams Officer at his school. No opening brown envelopes in the school lobby for us home-educators, you know – oh no, we get our exam results in other ways. And these exam results were for Barney.
Maths: A*. Two papers, marked out of 160 and 200 – Barney scored 153 and 199.
Science – the level 2 papers for Biology, Chemistry and Physics: 100, 87 and 95 respectively. That means another two A*s, with an A for Chemistry (although he got 95/100 overall on his level 1 Chemistry, so he still has a good chance of an A* as long as he does well in the level 3 paper in May and doesn’t bomb out on the practical).
Quite satisfactory, then 
From Tesco we drove to the home of Tim’s trumpet teacher, M, and collected him, along with a trumpet, a trombone, a marching baritone, a guitar and a variety of bits you can stick into or attach to brass instruments to make them make different sounds. He came with us to our home-ed group meetup, where he provided hours – literally – of fun. The kids had a wonderful time and most of them had a go on at least a couple of the instruments he’d brought. He has a lovely way of interacting with kids and even the littlest ones quickly started to trust him and follow what he asked them to do. It made for a noisy meeting, but a very good one.
And I now have children who want music lessons – including Toby, who had a blast on Tim’s little pocket trumpet, and Jack, who really gave that trombone his best. There will be more photos along soon, once my internet connection stops moving like treacle, but for now, these will give you some idea
