This Jack Will Never Live In A Box

Jack is seven-going-on-eighteen. He’s always been like that – the going-on-eighteen bit anyway (obviously he hasn’t always been seven). He regularly makes me laugh over things he says or does which are completely unexpected.

Last night he was up at about 11, using his inhaler. (He’s still struggling with his asthma – I think a GP appointment and a request for a referral to someone more expert are required.) After a cuddle from me and a couple of puffs on the inhaler, he said he needed to use the bathroom. I decided it would be best for him to spend the night in my room, so told him to come in to me once he was done.

A minute later he arrived and said, in a very casual, grown-up manner, “There was a spider in the sink but I dealt with it – I ran the water and made it go down the plug-hole.” I was a bit amused by his grown-up tone, but then he added, “I helped make it go down the plug-hole by using my toothbrush.”

I hoped that he’d used the end of the handle to push the spider down the sink, but further questioning revealed that he had “brushed it down”. He still doesn’t get why I find this, er…well, I’m not sure what I find it. Not exactly disturbing, but certainly not something I’d have advised. He remains of the opinion that the most interesting thing about the whole story is that the spider had three legs, and he continues to wonder what happened to its other legs. Goodness knows if it was even a spider. It would be just like Jack to discover a new species in the bathroom sink.

He’s also convinced that there’s a television show about him. He has evidence, and nothing we say is going to change his opinion.

Jack sounds a lot like my nearly 7 years old……he is really trying to be ‘brave’ when it come to creepy crawley things.
Giggle at the spider though, I just hope its remaining legs are not in the bristles of the toth bruch (yuk)
HRH (my 7 year old) has a asthma review this month at the hos. he is struggling again too at the moment (hugs)

obviously that was meant to say ‘tooth brush’ sorry.

That made me smile – sounds rather like my four year old, whom we think is the cause of our toilet blockage at the moment. He dealt with “something” by flushing it down the toilet. I’m afraid to say we don’t know what that “something” was, so are dreading what we will find when we unblock it tomorrow….
