There’s dogs and there’s dogs

Just got back from walking the dogs in a local forest with George and Freddy. We’ve been up there a few times with them and usually let them off their leads once we’re a bit into the forest and well away from any roads. There’s a particular fork in the path which is where I usually let them off, but as we approached it this morning, two men came walking towards us, each of them with two pit-bull-like dogs on leads, and called to us to go back up the path we’d come down, telling us their dogs wouldn’t walk past us! The dogs weren’t barking or growling or anything, just straining at their leads - but who has even one dog, never mind four, out in a forest where families and other dogs walk, if the dog is so potentially dangerous they can’t even walk it past another dog? :wahuh: If we’d met them a minute later, my dogs would have been off their leads, and would very likely have run up to greet the terriers; I don’t like to think what the consequences might have been.

The thing is, I think it’s more than just badly-trained dogs - I think they might well have been bred for fighting. Dogs like this (type, not just breed) are banned, with quite high penalties for keeping them and for having them in a public place.
