Craving Normal
One of these days… life will be normal. Normal-for-us, I mean. I’m not so ambitious as to aim for normal normal
It feels like recently there’s been one thing after another preventing us from just doing our ordinary stuff. For the past week, it’s been four children with chickenpox, so we’ve been stuck indoors. Before that, Barney had chickenpox, so we were confined to quarters even though the rest were okay. Before that, it was National Schools Film Week, so we were out and about watching movies. Before that, I was spending quite a lot of time searching for a car. Before that I was sick. Before that, Henry had just arrived with us. Before that, we were preparing for his arrival. Before that, it was the summer!
I suppose, looking back, that we have actually fitted in quite a lot of “educational” stuff in there too… I think perhaps I’m just craving a normal week
This morning Barney was the only one who went to swimming lessons, George and Freddy still being covered in spots. It does seem a bit daft that we keep them at home as soon as they’re spotty, considering how they’ve been infectious before that anyway. I worked out while Barney swam - I’ve been very, very good about going to the gym, and it’s very, very frustrating that I haven’t actually lost any more weight since I started
Yesterday we had friends visit, though they were late to arrive and didn’t get to stay for long. Barney and Henry cycled to the swimming-pool again in the afternoon, and in the evening Henry and Scratchy went to basketball. The boys did do a bit of schoolywork in the morning, but not a lot - I’ll see if I can encourage them to finish up this afternoon. We’d a phone-call from one of the couple who set up the exchanges; she chatted with me in the afternoon and then with Henry in the evening. He told her he’d read six books and that homeschool is the best
Thursday is too far away for me to remember; you know what I’m like. I just can’t do those long catch-ups that the people from the Green House and the Portico manage. If it comes back to me, I’ll blog about it later.
Right, better go and see if I can get the crayon off the family-room wall. Gee, I wonder who could possibly be behind that ![]()

If you’ve been exercising a lot, you might have lost fat but gained muscle, so you won’t seem any lighter. How about your clothes? Any difference in fit?
Will be hoping for a nice normal week for you
Yebbut I’m heavy enough that I’d have expected to see *some* weight-loss. Maybe a very tiny difference in fit in clothes, but not much.
Very frustrating
I was thinking much the same as Alison
When i was a slimming world lady, it was normal for people who started to exercise to stay the same for 4 weeks, after which a big difference began to show.
So… I should be thin by the end of next week then?
Who do I sue if I’m not?
Deb, I’ve been using http://www.nutracheck.co.uk to keep track of what I’m eating (sporadically!) - it’s a calorie (and fat) counter.
Argh, I can’t do all that measuring and weighing portions stuff. That’s why I’m taking the eat-it-then-work-it-off route - because the don’t-eat-it-in-the-first-place route is hopeless for me
Lol! I’m too lazy, I’d rather just eat less
I don’t do any weighing and measuring though, guesswork only - if you put in, say, roast chicken, into the nutracheck thing, it offers you a small, medium or large portion, so I use my judgment, but no idea whether my ideas are the same as theirs! But I do find it puts me off eating an extra packet of crisps if I know I’m going to have to write it down
And it’s nice to get to the end of the day, get it all added up and realise I can go and buy a chocolate flapjack *whilst feeling virtuous*
