Roll on bedtime

Today will be very short, because my children will be in bed right after dinner.

We’d a busy day yesterday - errands in the morning, then we visited friends, then back here to meet up with friends we hadn’t seen in several months - much too long a time, and I hope it’s not as long until next time! They stayed over, and the boys - theirs and ours - were less than willing to go to sleep. Their daughter wasn’t keen on the whole going-to-sleep bit either, but at least she was unkeen in a quiet way LOL I really don’t know what time they all entered the Land of Nod, but I can say with certainty that none of them spent enough time there. Some of them were already fighting by 8 a.m., some of them looked grey, and some of them were just plain grumpy. By mid-afternoon, all of mine were quite astoundingly cranky; I honestly can’t remember a time when they’ve been moreso. The friends left about noon; I hope the kids fell asleep in the car or the two-hour drive home will have felt like twice that at least…

Nobody was fit for anything by lunchtime, so we had leftovers from last night and then I suggested they watch a DVD, on the basis that a) they weren’t fit for anything else, and b) some of them might fall asleep during it. Even that wasn’t a universally popular idea: Barney moaned about not getting to use Playstation. It would have been fine for him to do that, but then the others would have joined him and then there’d have been more of Moany, Screechy, Sulky and Waily (in that order). I really thought Jack would fall asleep during the DVD, but instead he had one of those circular conversations (”I’m scared!” “So don’t watch it.” “I want to see it!” “So put down the cushion that you’re holding in front of your face.” “I’m scared!” etc). By about 4.30, Jack and George (who’d reached his meltdown peak at lunchtime) had got their second wind, though George was extremely hoarse (not sure if he’s sick or just exhausted). Barney and Freddy, however… :boom:

Edit: Barney has just been chased to bed - for his own safety :blank: If he’s lucky, I might let him come back down for some dinner later…

It does make tempt you to swear off sleepovers forever, doesn’t it?
