General chit-chat

I’m emerging from the fug of the worst headache I’ve ever had - hence no blogging yesterday. We’d a busy day: I did quite a few errands, took the kids out for lunch (using coupons which fed three of them for free :-D), and went to visit my grandparents’ grave. It’s been a long time since I was there; I often think of going but rarely seem to have the time. But yesterday we were in the area and we had a little bit of free time. It was the first time either Jack or Toby has been, and I don’t think George or Freddy ever remembers having visited it before, though I’m fairly certain they have done. I got teary when I got to the grave, which surprised me. It’s over ten years since my grandfather died, and over nine since my grandmother did; I suppose I just wasn’t expecting to feel so emotional about it. Barney was lovely, patting my arm when he saw me getting choked up. The others were mostly more interested in the very very long worm they spotted. Jack went wandering up the path and came back to announce that there weren’t any bodies, he couldn’t see them…

We’d bought a kite (well, two - one for a birthday present for someone) so we stopped at a playground by the water’s edge later to try to fly it, but by the time we put it together, we only had a few minutes before we had to collect Scratchy, and nobody was listening to me so that wasn’t a huge success. When we came home, I tried to re-dye my hair. It is still horrendous but I think it may be slightly less glow-in-the-dark now. I think I shall just have to stop washing it and hope the dirt covers up the luminescence.

Scratchy took off for basketball and I went to lie down with Toby - he was ready for a sleep and I was feeling very tired and slightly headache-y; that soon evolved into something much worse, and by the time Scratchy got back, Barney was babysitting Toby in his bedroom and I was trying to hide, not very successfully. I rarely take painkillers, but I did last night, and they muted it enough that I was able to fall asleep. This morning it was still there but at least I was feeling able to eat and drink something (I hadn’t eaten since lunchtime yesterday, just couldn’t face food - not something that happens to me often ever!)

We’ve been chatting some more about the French exchange programme I mentioned a few weeks ago, and we’re going to tentatively go forward with it, getting more information and probably starting with a French child coming to us, if we’re accepted. I’ve chatted a bit by email with another family which has done an exchange (and is about to start two more), and it’s more appealing after that. Will keep you posted.

Off to a birthday party this afternoon, with, I hope, a bit of more successful kite-flying going on beforehand. Apologies for any missing “e”s in this post, my keyboard needs a good clean LOL Hope your weekend’s a good one :-)
