Plan for today

Posted by Deb on Saturday July 29, 2006 at 7:56 am

Send Scratchy to register Barney, George and Freddy for swimming lessons starting in September, since we weren’t organised enough to get in for pre-open-registration on time.

Feed children.

Remove many bicycles from garage so washing-machine, when it arrives, can be wheeled straight in from the front to the back (this will be much easier than it would have been a week ago, because now the garage is actually tidy and organised).

Await delivery of washing-machine.

Install washing-machine.

Do a load of laundry.

Look for a place to hang it to dry, because it’s raining.

Do another load of laundry.

Look for more places to hang it to dry, because it’s raining.

Repeat ad infinitum.

It’s not raining right this minute but we had rain on Thursday night, on and off all day yesterday and during the night last night. The forecast for this area is for it to rain every day until next Friday. The sky is light grey. I wonder if I could put the gazebo up over the washing-line…

Rain… ah, sounds wonderful. Though, admittedly, not if you have a large pile of laundry to dry. BTW I was most impressed to read in the other post that you were still using washable nappies, even without a workable washing m/c. I’m afraid I’d have seen it as a wonderful excuse to use disposables for a week or two… (um… I keep getting failure messages for posting this comment, will try one more time. I just hope it doesn’t end up posting three times. If so, my apologies).

Nappies…hm. I have a certain irrational pride in the fact that we’ve never used ’sposies on Jack or Toby, and that Freddy only wore them for a week (during an emergency trip to Toronto when Scratchy’s dad was dying - and coincidentally(?) that was the only time he had a rash). I also have a certain guilt (environment)/resentment (money) about having used them on Barney and (part-time) on George. Plus I’m too mean frugal to pay for disposables when I have a pile of perfectly-usable cloth nappies. And of course I was thinking, “the washing-machine will be delivered any day now…”

As it turns out, the washer is so big that it laundered all the huge pile of nappies in one load. I think I need a bigger nappy-pail ;-)

I now have 1.5 loads of laundry hanging indoors to dry (hung last night), and another 1.5 loads of laundry hanging outdoors, since it’s perfect drying-weather this morning. And the last load - yes, the last one, that’s how big this washing-machine is! - is almost done, so that will be hung shortly. I’m impressed :-)
