Another good negative

I’ve just had Toby’s sweat-test result: negative. He does not have cystic fibrosis.

This isn’t really unexpected - it was always unlikely, given his genetic background and the lack of any symptoms other than lack of weight-gain. Still, it’s good to have it ruled out.

So it looks like he’s just plain old small. Which is, of course, much better than him being ill :-)

The paed (the hospital one, who ordered the tests - not Dr Bozo) says he’d prefer that Toby have the ECG he missed last week, but that it’s up to us - well of course it is, but he’d be pushing it harder if he really thought it was going to show anything, so I think if it happens to be convenient we’ll get it done, but otherwise we’ll not worry about it. That sounds awful! - like I’m only bothered about my child’s health if it’s convenient! Of course that’s not the case; if we were at all concerned, we’d do whatever it took. But since we’re not, and since everyone involved - all three paeds who’ve seen him (or, in Dr B’s case, read the notes and glanced sideways at him ) and everyone else - agrees that all the evidence is that his heart is absolutely fine, well, we’ll only do it if we happen to be in the right place at the right time. So, kids, if any of you is going to do anything that will necessitate a trip to the children’s hospital, could you be oh-so-helpful and do it on a Tuesday or Friday morning, between the hours of 9 and 11, please? ;-)

Really pleased that the sweat test results were negative. Just even having the paeds suggesting A had CF when she was 11 months was horrible, even though my HV thought it was extremely unlikely. I hope that Toby soon starts to put on a bit of weight and the worries will be behind you. We never had an explanation of why A had FTT, but when I look at her now, it’s unbelievable to think what a tiny baby she was. Hope you have no need to see any paeds again!!
