Runaround Friday
I’ve been a bit lazy this week with this blogging business, haven’t I? Need to get back into a routine. With summer coming, a lot of the boys’ activities are finishing for a while, so with any luck things will be a little calmer soon. Then again, I’ve just handed over a ridiculous amount of dosh for various summer programmes at the leisure centre, so maybe not!
Today was another day of running about madly. Barney broke his glasses Barney’s glasses were broken (he insists he just found them that way :-*) and his old ones are too tight around his head, so we had to go to get him a new pair. That meant a trip to the town we used to live in, because that’s where he’s always had his eyes tested. I’ve now got a copy of his prescription so we can get replacements more locally if necessary, but I think we’ll stick with that optometrist for eye-tests - they provide an efficient, child-friendly service and the kids are familiar with them. I had another errand to run in the same town - well, I thought I did but it didn’t work out as I’d planned. When we went into town for Barney’s specs, we got lucky and found a very handy parking space just around the corner from where we had to go, right outside the fruit’n'veg shop which employs the daughter of our old neighbours. She came out and chatted with us, and mentioned that her mum had been in hospital and that her dad was turning 70, so I decided to drop in to visit them, but unfortunately they weren’t home when I got there
I tried to phone tonight, but nobody answered; I’ll try again tomorrow. I wondered if it would feel odd to see our old house again - it was a very happy home for us, and we were sorry to leave it - but I didn’t actually feel any real connection to it once I got there.
After throwing some lunch at the boys in the car, we headed back to the local leisure centre, where Barney and George swam while I did a grocery run before going back to meet them and Scratchy. Barney, George and Freddy all had their final soccer school session, and Scratchy took Freddy and Jack swimming - oh, and George too, because he decided to go back in the pool
Then they all came home for five minutes before Barney and Scratchy went out again to play basketball - I’m told Barney almost scored
Toby was an absolute star in the car again today - he didn’t sleep much, but was quite cheerful in his carseat. He’s become more interested in toys, which makes it easier to entertain him in the car, and the keep-feeding-him tactic has also become easier, because he can eat a wider variety of foods now, plus he’s better at getting food into his own mouth, and doesn’t drop it so often! He’s right on the verge of crawling - a bit later than the others, but that’s probably because we now live in a house with hard floors throughout downstairs and he hardly ever gets put down
We think he may even have gained a bit of weight! - we’ll find out on Monday, because we’ve an appointment with the local paediatrician.
We had a late dinner consisting of a variety of Indian food (thanks to the Tesco clearance person ;-)) and pushed everyone towards their beds. After all of that, I’m only fit for one thing!
